A number of factors combine to cause a web basement or basement flooding, including:

If your home is even more than a few years old, chances are, it was not built with a waterproof basement in mind. And even if it has some basement waterproofing features, they may not be up to today’s standards. When the ground is completely saturated, the water has to go somewhere. Water will take the path of least resistance, and in many cases that means the water soaks into your concrete foundation floor and walls. This can cause structural damage if it is not dealt with.
There are a number of signs that you may benefit from basement waterproofing. Some are more obvious than others. If you have an unfinished basement, you can clearly see some issues. If you have a finished basement, some problems may be hidden.

- A white or grey chalky substance on the walls
