Crawl Space Encapsulation Near Me

Heated Floors May Not Be The Solution for Your Cold Feet

Got cold feet? And we don’t mean about your impending nuptials. We literally mean COLD FEET… like grab your wool socks or fuzzy slippers cold feet.

It’s that time of year again when our homes start to feel the effects of how cold the weather is outside. A dip in temperature can mean your heating system is working overtime and your floors feel icy cold on your bare feet.

Heated Floors May Not Be Necessary

Be careful assuming that you need to invest in heated floors to remedy this cold feet issue. Radiant floor heating, both hot water and electric, can be expensive to install and to maintain, costing anywhere from $1-$5 per day in electricity.

Plus, if you have an unsealed crawl space, that will just be a bandaid and not get to the root of the problem.

Encapsulating Your Crawl Space Could be the Solution

If you have a crawl space, you probably know about it, but if you’re unsure, a crawl space is a small, short space underneath the first floor of your home that isn’t closed in and insulated like a basement. It can be instead of a basement or in addition to, in a part of your basement.

The lack of flooring, walls, and insulation is not only a potential space for rodents and dirt to pile up, bringing icky air into your home, but also a place for cold air to sit just beneath your bottom floor.

If your crawl space isn’t sealed off or encapsulated, cold air can easily enter your home through open crawl space vents, as well as cracks or gaps in the crawl space walls.  This cold air then rises up into your walls and floors, making the whole first level of your house colder than it should be.

By closing in (encapsulating) your crawl space, you can protect the integrity of your home’s foundation, protect your family from unhealthy air, save money on heating and cooling, and keep those floors (and feet) from getting cold!

Once you’ve encapsulated your crawl space, if you still desire those heated floors, go for it! But if you don’t at least check your Crawl Space first and go ahead and install heated floors on top of a cold space, you’ll just be spending more and more each day to keep the floors warm without getting to the root of the problem underneath.
